Northern part of Thailand is a treasure trove filled with glittering temples, ancient ruins, exotic markets and sumptuous foods. 

This 6 day tour starts in Chiang Mai, explore the bustling Waroros Market, get hands-on with 2 days at Chiang Mai Thai Cookery School. Learn the secrets behind Thai cooking. Using fresh ingredients guided under the eye of a professional chef. Then continue with a stop at White Temple before reaching Chiang Rai. Continuing on to Nanglae Pineapple Plantation and sample the delicious Pineapple grown here. The next day, visit the ancient kingdom of Chiang Saen on the banks of the Mekong facing Laos, see a number of ancient ruins and temples. Enter the Golden Triangle and embark on a longtail boat ride along the mighty Mekong River. 

  • Day 1: Chiang Mai Arrival

    Arrival at Chiang Mai airport, you will be met and then transfer to your hotel.

    In the afternoon, explore the center of Thai shopping in Chiang Mai “Waroros Market”. This is a vibrant local area where locals stock up on everything from dried chili, kafir lime leaves and eadible worms. Here, you will find northern food that Thai visitors always buy to take home. Sai-Ua (northern Thai sausage), Nam Prik Noom (green chili paste), Kaeb Moo (crispy fried pork skin) and other sweets like Khao Soi Tad (sweet yellow noodle), Kala Mare (sticky black jelly) await to please your palate. 

    From here, take a cyclo (trishaw) ride through the ‘old city’ to explore the city’s most serene and beautiful temples: Wat Phra Singh, home to a very old and sacred Buddha image, Wat Chedi Luang, where the famous Emerald Buddha was once enshrined. Overnight in Chiang Mai.

  • Day 2: Chiang Mai (B, L)

    After breakfast, you will get transferred  to Chiang Mai Thai Cookery School and enjoy cooking class. 

    The Chef will display a tray of ingredients and will go through each one and explain how to prepare it, how to store it and what can be used as a substitute. Most of this information is already in your cookbook, but the instructor is more than happy to answer any extra questions.

  • Day 3: Chiang Mai (B, L)

    This morning you will make your own curry pastes by using a pestle and mortar. The ingredients will need to be prepared first and then ground to a paste. Sompon will be on hand to help everybody.

  • Day 4: Chiang Mai - Doi Mae Salong (B, L)

    After breakfast, pick up in Chiang Mai and head towards Chiang Rai. Coffee break on the way at Cabbage & Condoms operated by the Population and Community Development Association to serve and assist the rural people, or coffee break at the excellent Charin Garden Resort, famous for its homemade pies. Stops will also be made at Mae Krachan Hotsprings and Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, before arriving in Chiang Rai. Lunch is at a local restaurant. 

    Continue to Doi Mae Salong, en route stop at a local pineapple plantation. Here, you will be able to walk around the plantation and sample the pineapple sold at food stalls along the way.

    Drive up into the hills to Doi Mae Salong. The town of Mae Salong was founded in the 1960s by former Kuomintang soldiers who had been expelled from Myanmar after their escape from China. This remains a predominantly Chinese area. Overnight in Doi Mae Salong..

  • Day 5: Doi Mae Salong - Chiang Saen - Golden Triangle (B,L)

    This morning, transfer to Phu Chaisai Resort for a morning cooking class in Northern Thai appetizers.

    In the afternoon, visit the ancient Kingdom of Chiang Saen on the steep banks of Mekong River, opposite of Laos, where you will see a couple of magnificent ancient ruins and temples. Continue to the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Then embark on a long-tail boat and see the area from the majestic Mekong River’s perspective. Overnight in Golden Triangle.

    Drive to Mae Sai, the bustling trading town at the northern-most border between Thailand and Myanmar. Lunch is at a local restaurant. Transfer to Chiang Rai airport for your onward  flight. End of services.
